FAQ

How do I check in? + -

Drive on over to us. When you find the white brick house with the pink door, pop on out with your pooch and give us a knock or ring! Our check in lobby is our holding spot between appointments, so we always want to ensure pet safety and premium service, and will meet you promptly at the door.

We will welcome you into the check in lobby, weigh your pup, and double check your records. We will do a pet body review and get grooming notes at this time. Leashes and collars can be taken with you or left at “Leash Ln”, our lobby holding area, for your convenience.

When can I pick up and drop off? + -

When you make an appointment, you will be provided with an appointment time (drop off), as well as a pickup time. Tailored Tails Pet Spa is a one-on-one, kennel free salon in a calming home environment. We do not have kennels or a boarding room, this means that there cannot be more than one pet family in the salon at once. You may arrive up to 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time, but no sooner.

Tailored Tails Pet Spa is a one-on-one, kennel free salon in a calming home salon environment. In order to maintain the luxury and safety of this service for our special pooches, appointments cannot overlap and all appointments come with a specific pickup time. If services are added on at drop off you will be provided with your updated pickup time. Any pets remaining more than 15 minutes after their scheduled pickup time will have boarding fees added to their grooming ticket at a rate of $20 per hour. This amount will not be prorated, and will be charged at the end of the first minute of the next consecutive hour.

EXAMPLE: (Scheduled Pick Up - 2:00pm) Arrive at 2:15pm: +$20, Arrive at 3:01pm: +$40

What should I do to prepare for my pup’s appointment? + -

Regular grooming behaviors at the spa and at home is the first step to successful grooming. We recommend you start early and maintain a regular schedule.

Customers new to the Spa need to complete a New Client Registration which enables us to provide individualized treatment and care for your pooch. Book with us!

Consider the hair length you would prefer, the condition of your pups coat, and feel free to bring a photo of the type of haircut you would like or previous grooming notes. We can provide a length chart or lookbook for you to choose from depending upon your pups specific coat style.

Before your pet comes to the Spa we strongly recommend they have a chance to relieve themselves. Feel free to use our pet waste clean up station available outside the lobby door, we just ask that you avoid the flower beds. Your pooch may want to have a meal beforehand, but keep in mind if your pet is nervous, they might do better with an empty stomach. A waste incident may require a second bath and extra time.

We do provide a regular source of water for all pups while in our care, however Tailored Tails Pet Spa never gives food to pups to prevent accidental dietary concerns occuring. Feel free to bring along any special blankets, toys, or treats that you approve and know your pooch loves and we would love to reward them during their service!

What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule? + -

If it is up to 24 full hours before your appointment, no worries! Contact us, or visit your online booking to reschedule your appointment. We’ll see you soon!

But wait! What if it’s less than 24 hours? Due to the one-on-one nature of Tailored Tails Pet Spa it is very difficult to fill an appointment vacancy with such short notice, so there is a No Show/Late Cancel Fee of $30 applied to your account or charged to the card on file. We understand emergencies happen, please contact us asap so we can do our best to accommodate you!

What vaccinations do you require? + -

For pets over 16 weeks old, paper documentation of a current rabies vaccination is required. The rabies tag is NOT ACCEPTED, we must see documentation which contains: the pet name, vaccination date of issue or date of expiration, vet name, and vet phone number. Documentation MUST be uploaded to your account. You can upload it yourself with your client intake form, text it to us, email it to us, or bring the paper documentation with to check in and we will upload it for you. Pups can not be accepted without current vaccinations.

What about pets under 16 weeks? We accept pets that are 12-16 weeks old for introductory services with documentation of their second round of puppy boosters and shots.

How long will it take? + -

Services vary depending on animal size, behavior, and requested services. You will be provided with a pickup time at booking, and we will confirm that pickup time at drop off. We will also contact you once your pooch is ready for pickup, just in case you want to come get them right away.

Why is Tailored Tails Pet Spa in a home location? + -

Tailored Tails Pet Spa was started by our groomer Crystal. She started her career in corporate salons and saw how stressful the kenneling process can be for pets who are not used to it. The added influence of other pets around and multiple loud noises going on continually added stress to the grooming process for groomers and pets alike. Out of a desire to create a more calming and positive experience for everyone involved, Tailored Tails Pet Spa was born. This is truly a spa for your dog, and they’ll head home feeling like a new them in the best way!

Is there a public bathroom available? + -

Tailored Tails Pet Spa does not have a public bathroom available for use.

Can I walk in for a service? + -

Tailored Tails Pet Spa is by appointment only.

Will I have the same groomer every time? + -

Yes, please visit our “About” to learn about our groomer Crystal!

Can I stay and watch the groom? + -

If you would like to learn how to groom your pet, please inquire with us during your check in process about those opportunities for the future. However, it is not uncommon for dogs to get overly excited if they are able to see their owner. This means that they wiggle much, much more and this can create an unsafe situation or damage color treatments, etc. Therefore, we do not allow you to stay and watch the grooming process.

Will my dog be put in a crate? + -

Tailored Tails Pet Spa does not utilize kennels during the grooming process. The only exceptions to this rule: the pet becomes an extreme danger to handle, or is left more than 15 minutes beyond their scheduled pick up time.

Tailored Tails Pet Spa is a one-on-one salon. To avoid pet family overlap, if you are late enough to warrant boarding fees, boarding will occur in a kennel until the pet is picked up.

When should I bring my dog in for their first groom? + -

We highly recommend taking advantage of our discounted introductory to grooming puppy services for those 12-16 weeks of age!

How often should I bring my dog in for grooming? + -

To maintain a proper / manageable coat for non-shedding breeds such as Doodles, Poodles, Poodle mixes, Bichons, Shih Tzus, Lhasa Apsos, Terriers, etc you should have your dog groomed every 4-6 weeks. If they are kept in a very short cut, these breeds may be able to go 8-10 weeks. Breeds that have short, shedding coats can usually wait 8-12 weeks between grooming appointments, as long as they are brushed regularly at home. If you just hate doing the brushing at home, ask about our weekly brush out package deals and we will do it for you!

How often do my dog’s nails need trimmed? + -

Generally, a dog’s nails need trimmed every 4-6 weeks to prevent the quicks from growing too long. Quicks that have grown out over time can sometimes be receded again with treatment, however this process does not work for all dogs and is not a guarantee. Quicks that are grown out past the paw pad result in the nails being permanently longer than desired, can cause arthritis in their toes and legs over time, or grow into the paw pads causing infection or even needing surgical removal. Frequent nail care is important and we’re here to take care of you!

Can I bring my own shampoo? + -

Absolutely, although our luxury quality services are designed with high quality products to promote a healthy coat and skin.

If your veterinarian has prescribed or suggested an alternate shampoo rather than our product line, we will gladly use it. Please note, many prescribed shampoos/conditioners require 5-15 minutes of contact time. If this is the case, our groomer will spend that time with your dog and gently massage the product into their coat and skin. An additional fee is added to account for this time.

How do I avoid getting charged extra for matting? + -

For those with longer coats, brushing with a long slicker brush is a great start! It is important to follow behind with a metal comb, making sure the comb touches the skin and moves through all layers of hair without lifting out of the coat.

Matting rests tightly against the skin, often causing pain, irritation, and/or hiding pre-existing conditions. Matting cannot be bathed, water tightens the mats in most situations, removal with clippers is the safest option. This usually requires a double haircut, more work, and more equipment cleaning. These are the reasons for the additional fees in these situations.

I don’t want my dog cut short, how can I keep them long? + -

Keeping regularly grooming appointments and keeping up with regular brushing and combing routine at home in between appointments. If you just hate doing the brushing at home, ask about our weekly brush out package deals and we will do it for you!

I have multiple dogs, can I bring them in together? + -

Tailored Tails Pet Spa does allow multiple pets from the same family, who are used to being together without reactive behavior, to come in for grooming at the same time. Book your first appointments consecutively, and we will make a determination for your next appointment about how quick your fur family can be ready for pickup on a regular basis.

Is my pet too old to be groomed? + -

Older pets often need special care and attention. We recommend the style be kept short and easy to maintain to keep the grooming process to a minimum amount of time. Tailored Tails Pet Spa is able to work with pets who need accommodation, depending on the extent of the necessary accommodations, there may be an added special handling fee included with your service.

My dog can be aggressive, can I bring them in for grooming? + -

Keeping a dog calm during the grooming process is just one of the requirements of a groomer. We understand that some dogs may have had bad experiences and may exhibit stress behaviors. With enough at home owner participation, patience, calming techniques, aromatherapy, quality equipment, and time we are confident we can create an enjoyable grooming experience for most dogs.

For those that may be particularly traumatized we recommend a grooming program consisting of a series of shorter treatments where bath and drying is undertaken at one session, nail clipping and ear cleaning at another, hair clipping at another, and so on. These should be spaced at regular intervals of 1 week to aid the training process.

Unfortunately, all the PPE and calming techniques in the world just isn’t enough for some pups and we cannot accept dogs under sedation at Tailored Tails Pet Spa. If our groomer deems that your pup cannot be handled safely or becomes a danger to themselves or others during the process, we would rather stop services than create an unsafe situation. We can make recommendations for local vet grooming services that may be better suited in those situations.

How can I book creative services? + -

Tailored Tails Pet Spa Creative Grooming Services can be booked by existing clients. Once we have groomed your pup and evaluated their behavior, we can do a color trial test for allergies. If your pup is deemed suitable for creative grooming services at this time, we will create a customized plan and service for you and your pup’s unique creative desires!

What if I’m unhappy with the service? + -

Your satisfaction is important to us! If you are unhappy for any reason and would like something to be adjusted on the groom, we will be happy to make them immediately if time allows, or accommodate you at the earliest mutual availability to correct your concerns.

We kindly ask that you allow us the chance to take care of you the best we can prior to posting a negative review. We hate to see unhappy clientele, and we'd much rather make it right for us both and show your pooch some extra love. Please know we will do what we can to gain your satisfaction, however we do not offer refunds on grooming services.

What forms of payment do you accept and how/when do I pay? + -
